Camping Tent Equipment - How To Get It Right!

Hello again from Sunny Spain,

Today I want to talk to you about camping tent equipment and the importance of getting it right!

Purchasing the right camping equipment for your trip is an important factor and cannot be under estimated. Get it right and the trip will run smoothly, and you will enjoy camping for many years to come. Get it wrong and you could have a miserable camping experience. If it´s your first camping trip, it will probably put you off going again.

So; How do we go about buying the right camping tent equipment? There are different factors to consider when purchasing a tent for your trip. Here are some of those points....

1) Style of tent choice

There are many different styles of tent to choose from and there is no right or wrong tent for your camping trip. You need to find one that suits you. The best way to do this is to read reviews, look at camping websites, join forums and ask for advice, people are only too keen to share their camping knowlegdge.

For further information on types and styles of tent then please check out the Outdoor Hiking Equipment Review Store to help you make an informed buying decision.

2) Size of tent

Once you have chosen your preferred style of tent, then you need to look at tent size. Decide how many people you will be sharing the tent with, then add a person or two on for good measure. The reason for this is that tent sizes aren´t very generous. So, with this in mind, a so called "two person tent" will be sufficient for a couple, because you will be sleeping pretty close together and there probably won´t be any room for your camping and trekking gear. If however, you are looking at two seperate people, then you would be better off going for a three person tent. to give you that extra bit of room.

Having said all this, it also boils down to weight and size the tent. Also you will need to think about how much room you have allowed for your tent storage, because the bigger the tent, the more storage space you are going to need. So size really does matter!

3) Cost

Tents can vary in price immensely, ranging anywhere from $30.00 up to well over $1000.00. So one of the best ways to guage how much to spend, is to spend as much as you can for the type of tent that you want. What you should be thinking about, is that a tent is a long term investment, that should see you through 5-10 seasons of camping. So you want camping tent equipment that is going to last. You really do get what you pay for when it comes to tents so spend as much as you can afford.

For the best insider information on how to look for the best camping tent equipment then you need to check out Top Camping Tips This book gives you the low down on everything you ever wanted to know about camping, and more besides from the experts. So if you are serious about camping, then this is a must have book and I highly recommend it.

Camping and Backpacking Food Problems!

One of the biggest problems people face when camping or backpacking is what to bring camping, as they lack inspiration and need some camping food ideas. Food for a backpacking trip is going to be totally different from food for camping, simply because of the weight and size issue. Also you might have problems with camping food storage. You need to keep your food as fresh as possible especially when you don´t have access to a refrigerator. However there are some useful tips regarding food when camping or backpacking that you might want to take into consideration. these are....

1) When backpacking, keep all food you intend to take in Ziplock bags, and weigh out just what you need, no more and no less.

2) There is the option of taking freeze dried or dehydrated meals whilst backpacking. They are calorie counted to give you energy, and do come in a variety of dishes, however they are very expensive. So I would advise only using them on a short trip. For longer trips I find a combination of supermarket freeze dried alternatives and my own food works really well.

3) when planning what to take for a camping trip, always plan on 3 meals per person per day, try to take dried goods that can be used for a variety of dishes such as pasta and rice. If you do have fresh food, make sure it is well chilled and try to use up first. Powdered milk and eggs are great and easy alternatives to the real thing.

4) If you do decide to cook when camping, try to do all the preparation the night before you want to eat that particular meal, as this will make cooking the meal alot easier on the day. One pot meals such as Chilis or stews are excellent as once you have done all the preparation, you can just throw it in the pot and let it cookm slowly, leaving you time to do other stuff.

5) For Food storage when camping, take a designated cooler that is filled with dry ice. This keeps longer than normal ice. However it is advisable that you only open when absolutely necessary. Take all foods and drinks needed for that day out and put into a secondary cooler that can be used more frequently. This means that you will have a constant supply of chilled foods.

These are just some of the tips regarding food when camping and backpacking. for more helpful hints and tips on thsi and other matters. Please visit Top camping and backpacking tips

Are you totally new to camping or backpacking, and don't know where to start? Do you want the answers to questions like, what to take camping, or what are my backpacking essentials? or even simpler questions like how do I write a backpacking list?

You can generally spot newbie campers, as they are the ones that will turn up with an articulated lorry full of equipment that they would never use in a million years whilst on their camping trip. They arrive at the campsite in the dark and it takes them about 4 hours to pitch a tent. They then decide to try to get a campfire lit so that they can have some food, only to realise that they had forgotten the matches or fire-starters. So they go to bed, cold tired and hungry. Not a good start for their very first camping experience. It's probably put them off for life.
